What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of clear retainers, which gradually improve the alignment of your teeth. As they are clear, they are virtually undetectable, and give patients great results in minimal treatment time. Impressions of your teeth are taken in order to make the retainers, and highly advanced technology and imaging creates a prototype of how your teeth will reach their ideal straightness.
This option is perfect for people who don’t want look of traditional braces. However, it’s crucial to keep teeth very clean throughout treatment with regular hygiene appointments. The retainers are also required to be kept safe – many patients accidentally sit on or break their retainers, which then need replacing at an extra cost.
Things to Know
Invisalign only works if you wear it – so it’s important to be realistic about whether you will remember to wear your aligners at all times. The aligners can be worn whilst drinking cool water, but must be removed for eating and drinking other things. As the aligners are plastic, it’s crucial that they are not cleaned or sat in hot or boiling water, as they will melt.
To clean the aligners, water and a toothbrush can be used, with no toothpaste. Toothpaste is mildly abrasive and can dull the clarity of the aligners, so we do not recommend using toothpaste on them.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost and What is the Treatment Length?
The cost of aligner treatment can vary significantly depending on the severity of your case. If your smile is generally okay, but has a few minor issues requiring alignment, the treatment cost can be as little as $2,500. If you have severe crowding, crookedness or bite issues, a full course of invisalign may be required. This can cost up to $9,000.
The average time frame for a standard full course of Invisalign is 12 months. Your treatment time will again vary depending on your particular case. Some patients require as little as 6 months treatment time, while others need 18 months.
